The Claim

On July 22nd of this year, Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp discovered an inbound comet which will pass closest to the sun early in 1997. Some astronomers are predicting that it could rival the Great Comet of 1811 in brightness. It will be best viewed from middle latitudes in the northern hemisphere. Current estimates place the comet's eventual relative magnitude at anywhere from +1 to -2; lower numbers are brighter. YES coupons of this claim will pay .05 for every .1 degree of relative magnitude below 1 that the comet achieves, obviously maxing out at 1.00 for a magnitude or -1 or greater. The source for the reported magnitude is at the discretion of the judge.

Judge's Statement
